Stemming from the same quiet joy one derives from peeking into a stranger’s shopping trolley (instant mash? really guy?), Todd Selby’s voyeuristic peek into the homes and workplaces of the world’s brightest creatives is as conflicting as it is fascinating. “Should I be looking at this?” you ask yourself. Do I know the subject better for it? I wonder if I can ebay that toy? etc etc etc.

This strange human compulsion to get all up in everyone else’s shit so to speak, becomes all the more irresistible when the subjects are people you spy walking around your ‘hood. Selby originally showed his Sydney-centric series as part of Monster Children’s Selby/Cobrasnake joint show but for those not present the bulk of the images have made their way online. Prepare for some crib envy and check out a few of our favourites below.

If that’s not enough Aussie action for you The Selby also enlisted Sydney graphic designer Jonathon Zawada to make a collage-style poster for his online shop. French haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier has enlisted Dragonette frontwoman Martina Sorbara and French electro Producer/DJ Martin Solveig to collaborate on a track for popular Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance Ma Dame. The end result is the clip and track for “Boys And Girls” a playful electro number that was shot in Gaultier’s Parisian mansion. Check it out below…

Time for a Dead Weather video overload!

Judging by the flurry of uploads on their youtube account The Dead Weather, that gin-soaked super group comprised of a White Stripe, a Kill, a Queen Of The Stone Age and a Greenhorne have spent as much time in front of the camera as they have in the studio.

First cab off the rank is a live video of “Cut Like A Buffalo” a stomping reggae jam that threatens to descend into a prog-style keyboard solo at any second - then makes good on its promise. It manages to sound both murky, punchy, ballsy and focused and at 1:40 it’s efficient to boot.

Next up is “Will There Be Enough Water?” a piano lead slow burner built on a meandering blues riff and Mr. Whites’ backwater howl. The accompanying video, a behind the scenes look at how a record gets pressed however, is nowhere near as interesting.

My two favourite videos however are the trailers for “Treat Me Like Your Mother” a short film Directed by Jonathan Glazer. Not too sure on the premise though if you’ve ever wondered what Allison Mosshart would look like as a gun-toting bounty hunter wonder no more. The answer unsurprisingly is fucking rad.

There’s no denying general fashion in the 21st century has been much the same as certain eras in the previous century, whether it be “inspired” or just blatant throwbacks most has all been seen before. Yeah there’s a few names you could probably roll off your tongue who are pushing the boundaries and doing something completely different and dare I say it; “futuristic.”

When you finish collating that list you should probably add the name Irina Shaposhnikova.

Fresh out of Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Irina and her graduation collection; “Crystallographica” are making waves across the internet - these waves aren’t ripples either - so much so that within in a few weeks time you will be hard pressed to find a authoritative fashion site that hasn’t lent some of their html space to Irina and her mystique creations.

“My collection is inspired by the geological forms of crystals and minerals. It explores the geometrical and 3-dimensional approach to the female body and results new forms and shapes.”

A few months back shots of Kanye West’s footwear collab with Louis Vuitton circled the web but not until now has the LV Yeezy been observed under such great light. (Literally)

Undeniably the best end result of any collab Kanye has worked on, there’s a pair of shoes for everyone from the bright rave house kid to the late 20 something monotoned burb living bandit.

Mixing things up High Snobiety enlisted the help of German trigger finger Daniela Muller-Brunke to come shed some new light on the iconic shoewear line. And the best part is she got super psychy and projected Louis Vuitton’s logos in all different colours to make up the background which intern looked insane.

What will Yeezy do next?

Funnily enough Kyp decided to roll with “Rain Machine” as he wasn’t really feeling how his character combination given to him at birth looked on a merch T;

“I’ve been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn’t know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded. I’ve played regularly since then, at first under the name Black Lights until some kids in Texas told me they were already using that name. Then under my own name but I didn’t like how “Kyp Malone” looked on mock ups of t-shirts and fliers, thus Rain Machine.”
What should we expect music wise?

“A nearly full spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear - a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined, some rhythm and some rhyme.”
Cool but… Why is should I listen to it?

“People might be surprised that anyone is still working in a long format recorded medium considering the economic climate, current trends in dissemination and consumption, i.e. the internet and mp3 players. There is so much work being produced in this moment, in this, the age of readily available prosumer recording equipment and an internet hungry for content, not to mention the mountains of old songs that exist for most listeners who, in a lifetime, will only skim the surface of that magnificent library. People might be surprised that, with all that weighing against it, buying and listening to this album will be more than just pleasurable, more than just horizon expanding. This record will bring the listener to a higher level of consciousness, that peace and happiness are attainable through bathing in its sounds…LOL!!! Really though, I had a great time making this record and I hope listeners enjoy it.”
