Kitsune Team Up With The Cobrasnake

picture-21

The prodigious creative force that is Kitsune have released a collaborative video for Classixx’s “I’ll Get You” enlisting none other than Mr. Party himself Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter to film the clip.

Unsurprisingly Hunter takes a nubile brunette (bicycle-riding, denim cutoff sporting) and follows her as she frolics on the beach. Not exactly groundbreaking but anything that reminds us of what sunshine feels like is a good thing.

Kitsune and The Cobrasnake present Classixx feat. Jeppe - “I’ll Get You”

In other Kitsune news, the fashion arm of the pop culture behemoth have released a lookbook and accompanying behind-the-scenes video for their Fall Winter 09 range. Taking inspiration from The Graduate’s Ben Braddock (my favourite Dustin Hoffman role) designer Masaya Kuroki offers sharp androgynous attire that would look equally at home on Jarvis Cocker, your uni Professor or your intellectually intimidating Proust reading girlfriend. Never thought I’d say this but I want a mustard suit jacket - here’s to you Mrs. Robinson.

Phoenix Get Down With Dazed Digital

phoenix-band

First offered as a free download earlier this year, “1901″ the first single from Phoenix’s forthcoming ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’ LP has amassed a serious amount of plays on my Ipod and soundtracked many a Sunday jogging housecleaning sleep in session.

Continuing their idiosyncratic approach to promotion, the Parisian pop aficionados have also released a film clip for “1901″ produced in conjunction with Dazed Digital, or as they explain “To celebrate the album launch, Dazed Digital commissioned emerging video directors, Bogstandard to make a video for their song, ‘1901’”. The end result is your standard performance clip as viewed through the eyes of an epileptic with Rorschach shutter shades. After watching it my eyes kind of hurt. My ears however have no such complaints.

Harmonic 313 Battlestar (feat. Phat Kat and Elzhi) Remix

picture-7

The new filmclip from Mark Pritchard’s “Harmonic 313″ outfit sees cuprocking b-boy Andy Uprock erm… uprock his way around the city before getting obliterated by aliens. Malicious extraterrestrials, possibly the only force strong enough to stop Andy Uprock from dancing…

Creative Studio Sixty40 says of the clip: “The video for Battlestar is shot stereoscopically, flicking between each eye’s view every frame. It tells the story of a deceivingly small binocular spaceship that comes to earth to decimate an unsuspecting b-boy in order to reproduce and conquer the universe.”

Sportsgirl And TV Team Up

tv-low-res-2

Following collaborations with Elke Kramer and Romance Was Born, Sportsgirl have unveiled the first looks from their next designer capsule collection. This time around the on-trend Australian retailer have enlisted Ingrid Verner and Monika Tywanek from cult Melbourne label TV. You know what this means ladies, Sportsgirl stampedes ahoy.

The inspiration for the collection is described in the following: “Seduced by notions of bird-like freedom, TV took flight with gemstones, hand developed fabrics, a three dimensional knit pattern and perforated leather to create TV for Sportsgirl. The collection draws upon all things ethereal, intrinsically linking nature to the female form, conjuring a peaceful aural language through print and fabric texture.”

Imbued with TV’s character driven smirk, the free spirited 10-piece range features Coogi Knit Boy Pullovers, Perforated Leather Jackets, Printed Bird dresses and Bow Pencil Skirts. In short, pieces that will be a highly coveted among the budget conscious and fashion forward masses.

The range is available at selected stores from May. Prices range from $90.00 - $400.00.

Kanye West performs at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards at The Pe

He’s as polarizing as George Bush (this clip makes an equal case for both of them) but whether you love him or loathe him Kanye West can’t be accused of resting on his laurels. He’s a steadfast blogger, a Grammy Award winning artist, an alleged gay fish and after collaborations with Louis Vuitton and his own Pastelle clothing line - an accomplished designer. Now with the launch of his own signature Nike sneaker, West has cemented his place as the king of contemporary pop culture, and maybe, just maybe, all that chest thumping bravado is justified after all…

kanye-west

The Nike Air Yeezy (pictured above) comes off the back of West’s footwear collaboration with Louis Vuitton, a partnership which garnered interest from sneaker freaks and fashionistas alike. Now partnering with Nike Creative Director, Mark Smith, West has created a high top with a decidedly different visual aesthetic. “Kanye is a truly creative talent,” said Smith. “He’s a natural designer—partnerships like this always enhance the creative experience and the end product.” West agrees that the partnership with Nike has been exciting. “Nike is such an important brand to me,” said West. “Whether you are on the court, in the street, in the club, at school, Nike represents excellence, the standard in design. Growing up, we looked forward to the release of new Nike’s the way we would an album by our favorite artist. So the opportunity to collaborate on a design with Mark Smith and Nike Design has been a dream come true, and a great experience.”

Much like his music career West has been waiting for this opportunity his whole life “I’ve been designing Nike’s in my sketch pad since the fourth grade,” he said. “So to say I’ve been prepared for this would be an understatement. The really fun and challenging part for me was learning about Nike’s design process, learning more about fabrics and functions and colorways, and all of the details that go into designing a shoe of this quality.”

The Nike Air Yeezy will release in Spring 2009 and was launched officially in Sydney and Melbourne earlier this week. Three colorways will be available. The first in April 2009 will be the Zen Grey/LT Charcoal color way, followed this will be followed in May by a Black/ Black version, and in June with the final Net/Net color way.

What do you think? Do you like them or are they completely whack? Unwarranted hype or justified praise? For now I’ll perch firmly on the fence, but like his music I’m sure Kanye’s signature shoe will have the lovers and haters battling.

New Video Bloc Party Vs. Villains

bloc-party1

The first video from Bloc Party’s “Intimacy Remixed” LP was for Armand Van Helden’s remix of “Signs” - an eyebrow raiser (among other things) which combined anatomically questionable teeth placement with a Basic Instinct moment. Thankfully for the easily offended, Bloc Party’s second remix video is a far tamer affair.

Shot over two nights at London’s Olympia by fans with mobile phones, Villains remix of “Ares” with its dipping synths and penchant for handclaps and cowbell has “certified banger” written all over it. An appropriately hedonistic backing for Kele’s plea to “get fucked up” and one that takes me back all the way to 2005. A time when a dance song’s merit was directly proportional to its level of compression. Ahh life was so much easier back then…

Customs House Sculpture by Luke Storrier

20090501-_mg_0250

To celebrate creative collaboration, ABSOLUT Vodka has enlisted local sculptor Luke Storrier to create an installation piece that fuses fashion and art in one unique form. Taking place in Customs House forecourt, and coinciding with Australian Fashion Week, the work took form over the course of 5 days from April 27 2009.

Storrier accepted the challenge to interpret his idea of the brand statement, ‘In An ABSOLUT World Be Creative,’ and joins a number of other creatives, including fashion designer, Kym Ellery – who is expressing her vision in the medium of motion film, and stylist, Pip Edwards – who has chosen poetry, the prose of which has then been captured as a still image of script on paper ‘grafitti style’.

Storrier will re-create - as so many celebrated artists have before him - the iconic ABSOLUT bottle in his own signature style. Using recycled materials from the urban and industrial landscape, Storrier’s vision juxtaposes these in balance to the glamour and polish of high fashion.

Storrier is well known in the art world for his unique visual concepts and aesthetic. His inspiration for the piece comes from his understanding of fashion as “an outlet for people to express themselves, and a way to talk to others…without necessarily conversing.” A career spanning over 10 years, Storrier’s works have been exhibited at Blank Space Gallery, Sydney, and have been published in leading design magazines including Inside Out.
